The health visiting (or public health nursing) team's remit is to support families with children up to school age. All new mums and babies are visited at home in the early weeks, and contacts thereafter can take place at home or by phone.
The health visiting team can offer support in the following areas:
postnatal support to mum and baby | parenting | breast and bottle feeding | weaning |
growth monitoring | development | postnatal depression | feeding concerns/fussy eating |
sleep | behaviour | minor ailments | home safety |
reflexology for colic and constipation | toilet training |
Referral to other agencies e.g. speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, educational visitor, child smile, podiatry, parenting groups, home support project and social work.
