Overseas Visitors

Entitlement to treatment on the NHS is dependent upon residency, not nationality. Anyone who has lived in the United Kingdom legally and lawfully for "more than one year" is exempt from NHS charges. We are required to check whether you are entitled to treatment ont he NHS and will ask for proof of identification and residency.

Emergency treatment is free of charge but any ongoing treatment may be chargeable depending upon main country of residence and/or reason for stay in the United Kingdom.

Non-emergency treatment and ongoing treatment will be chargeable unless your country of residence has a reciprocal agreement with the NHS in Scotland.
